Better with Age:
Look Younger at Your Next Reunion
Whether it's been 5 years or 50, you want to look your best at your
next class reunion. From long-range practices that will last you a lifetime
to last-minute fixes to get you compliments on your big night, here are
our Top 5 tips for looking 10 years younger.
Wear Sunscreen
As the most famous commencement address that never was proclaims, "If I
could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be it." You
may be sick of hearing it, but all dermatologists recommend a broad-spectrum
sunscreen as your best defense against the ravages of time. While applying
sunscreen now won't undo any damage you may already have done, one with
an SPF of 15 or higher will protect your skin in the future and may help
you maintain an even, healthy glow. Select your sunscreen according to
your skin type, opting for a gel-based product for oily skin or a lotion
if your skin is dry.
Water, Water Everywhere
Nothing looks as great as the healthy glow of hydrated skin, and you can
get it from both inside and out. If you don't do so already, start drinking
eight glasses of water every day (experts recommend this practice to maintain
good health). Also, cleanse your skin thoroughly every day and use a moisturizer
to diminish those "laugh lines" you may have developed over the years.
Stand Up Straight
Okay, so your mom was right all along. Slouching really does make you look
less than your best. Good posture creates a tiny arch in your back that
lifts the shoulders and chest and takes in the stomach. In addition to
giving you a more youthful appearance, good posture can also help to alleviate
tension and back pain that may make you look older than you really are.
Keep it Comfortable
If you're thinking of pulling out your old prom dress or varsity sweater,
think again. Likewise, avoid trendy fashions that may make you seem like
you're trying too hard to look younger. Choose clothes that fit you well
and make you feel great. While that "little black dress" or your "interview
suit" may be your favorite stand-by, think about choosing colors that complement
your skin tones and softer fabrics that breathe. Also, make sure your shoes
will be comfortable enough to accommodate dancing all night long.
Say it with a Smile
Forget about cultivating a cool and sophisticated scowl to hide your laugh
lines. Facial muscles tend to conform to the expression you wear most of
the time, and a frown or scowl is more likely to produce lines or wrinkles
between your eyes and at the corners of your mouth. A smile, on the other
hand, can firm the muscles of your face and provide you with a more youthful
appearance. Nothing says young like a bright and cheerful smile, and your
old friends will be dazzled by how happy you are to see them again. |
